Era uma vez um velho e seu neto que queriam ir até o mercado.
Eles tinham um burro.
Primeiro, o velho montou no burro.O menino caminhava ao lado.
Algumas pessoas viram e disseram:”Olhem! O velho vai montado e o menino
anda. Que egoísta!”
O velho ouviu isso e ficou sem jeito.Desceu do burro.
Então o menino subiu no burro.O velho foi andando.
Outras pessoas viram e disseram:”Vejam! O menino vai montado e o velho anda.
Que falta de respeito!”
O menino também ficou sem graça.Então o velho e o menino subiram juntos no
burro.
Mais pessoas viram e disseram:”Pobre burro! Dois em cima dele. Que crueldade!”
Então eles desceram.Amarraram as pernas do burro com uma corda.
E tentaram carregar o burro.
As pessoas na estrada riram deles.”Olhem! Eles carregam o burro! Que bobagem!”
O burro ficou assustado, se soltou e fugiu.
O velho olhou para o menino e disse:” Quem tenta agradar todo mundo, não
agrada ninguém — nem a si mesmo”.

had a donkey.
First, the old man sat on the donkey. The boy walked beside him.
Some people saw them and said:”Look! The old man rides and the boy walks. How
selfish!”
The old man heard this and felt bad.He got oA the donkey.
Then the boy sat on the donkey.The old man walked.
More people saw them and said:”Look! The boy rides and the old man walks. How
rude!”
The boy felt bad too.So the old man and the boy both sat on the donkey together.
Some people saw them and said:”Poor donkey! Two people on one donkey. How
cruel!”
So they got oA the donkey.They tied the donkey’s legs with a rope.
They tried to carry the donkey.
People on the road laughed at them.”Look! They carry the donkey. How silly!”
The donkey was scared.It broke free and ran away.
The old man looked at the boy and said:” If you try to please everyone, you please
no one — not even yourself.”
